Women's Officer: Esther Ashby estherash@hotmail.com Welcome to Durham Labour's Women's Forum The Women's Forum is always looking for ways to engage with members throughout the Constituency. We recognise that not everyone wants, or is able to attend evening meetings. But we also know that almost every individual has some skill, experience or energy to contribute to the Party and its aim to return a Labour MP for Durham at the next general election. Please contact me if you are willing to be put in touch with other members in your area as small local groups can achieve a great deal. What we do We try to have bi-monthly meetings during the autumn and winter with speakers, discussions or training events. A new programme should be out soon so please watch this space. When the local party had its own HQ the Forum used to hold regular fund raising dinners and provide refreshments for meetings. We would like to do this again and are always on the lookout for members with appropriate skills or training to help. The Forum Tombola stall at Durham Miners Gala is becoming a regular event and again this year raised a healthy sum to go towards campaigning. Please get in touch with me if you would like to know more about the Forum and or other matters about the local party. Labour North Award Please follow the link on the Party's home page to read about Gilesgate and Pelaw Branch member Peggy Harper who was presented with her well deserved long service award by MP Roberta Blackman Woods. Labour Women in the Community As well as having several Labour parish councillors Forum members serve their local areas as school governors, on many voluntary and community bodies and play an active role in charities and other organisations. If you know of a member whose work deserves to be more widely recognised please let me know. We would like to profile someone special each month. | |
